A S t o r y of a Hard Trip with a Successful Ending By Harry Jackson L'K trip to Binghamton was carefully planned and every detail taken care of the day before we started. 3inghanton is approximately 180 miles from Pine Plains, and we had figured on making the trip in 10 hours; of course we had made a liberal allowance for ferrying across the Hudson, lunch, etc. We reached Sangerties in good style and pulled out for Woodstock: the State road between these two places is a dream, and after a short interval of rather rough road we struck the State road again and found-plendid going all the way to Pine Hill. It being Sunday and rather early in the day, we were not troubled with teams and when we started to climb the long hill in Pine Hill we noticed we were on one fiat tire. We quickly inserted a new tire, having melted a patch off the old one, and there was reason for it; we made the 33 miles from Sangerties to Pine Hill in exactly 1 hour and 8 minutes. After reaching Arkville our road suddenly became rough and muddy; we made the first three or four miles without chains, but made a great mistake by not putting them on at Arkville, for we presently skidded out of the road into a ditch of soft, sticky mud from which we were unable to extricate ourselves until a pedestrian helped us make a foundation of rocks which we took from a stone wall; then sne cl...
